PM Shehbaz Urges Unity Ahead of Iranian President Visit

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the opposition to avoid political disagreements in view of the upcoming visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, stating that the moment calls for national unity and diplomatic decorum.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, the prime minister said that discussions on contentious issues should be set aside as the Iranian president arrives in Pakistan. He emphasized that preparations should focus on welcoming the visiting dignitary in a respectful and unified manner.

Referring to recent regional developments, PM Shehbaz noted that a ceasefire has been reached in the Iran-US context and expressed hope that upcoming technical-level discussions within the next 60 days would pave the way for lasting peace under the memorandum of understanding.

He added that both the parliament and the public should welcome these diplomatic efforts.

In his broader remarks, the prime minister also commented on Pakistan’s political landscape, stating that if certain governments are considered legitimate, then others should also be viewed within the same constitutional framework. He further stressed that national progress requires equal development across all provinces, including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
