Germany to Increase Deportation Flights for Afghan Criminals

Date:

Berlin, Germany – Web Desk: Germany is set to significantly increase deportation flights for Afghan nationals convicted of crimes, following technical-level talks between the Federal Ministry of the Interior and representatives of the Afghan interim government .

According to media reports, Berlin is considering expanding charter deportation flights to Afghanistan to three per month, up from the current frequency, alongside regular commercial flights that will continue to carry deportees .

The decision comes as at least 100 Afghan nationals with final deportation orders are currently being held in German prisons or immigration detention centers . Many of these individuals have exhausted all legal avenues to challenge their removal .

Minister’s Statement

Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt confirmed that convicted criminals will be returned to Afghanistan “regularly and reliably,” stressing that those who abuse Germany’s protection and commit serious crimes must face deportation .

“We are not only increasing charter flights to Afghanistan, but also securing the necessary capacities for regular deportations,” Dobrindt said in a recent statement .

Germany’s deportation push is part of a broader European trend toward stricter immigration enforcement . The plans, which had initially been met with resistance from some German states, have now received support, with Saxony’s interior minister confirming that “the constitutional state takes effect” and deportations are happening .

The development follows months of political pressure on Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government to take tougher action on immigration and crime, particularly in response to a series of high-profile incidents involving Afghan nationals .
