PPP Demands 10% Salary Hike for Government Employees

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has called for a 10 percent increase in the salaries of government employees, terming the proposed 7 percent raise insufficient amid rising inflation and economic pressures.

Speaking in the National Assembly, PPP leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that despite challenging economic conditions during the party’s previous tenure, salaries of government employees were increased by up to 50 percent. He stressed that the current proposal does not adequately address the financial difficulties faced by public sector workers and should be revised upward.

He further noted that Pakistan has played a constructive role in averting wider regional conflict and praised the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir for their efforts toward global peace.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf emphasized that political stability and national consensus are essential for economic growth, foreign investment, and sustainable policymaking. He said that poverty reduction and public relief can only be achieved through collective political efforts and an end to confrontational politics.

Referring to the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, he said tensions there were deeply concerning and recalled his participation in negotiations on government instructions. According to him, around 80 percent of demands had already been accepted during earlier talks, including electricity tariff relief and flour subsidies, while some issues remain unresolved.

He urged renewed dialogue through a fresh negotiating committee to resolve outstanding matters in AJK through peaceful means, stressing that confrontation would only worsen the situation.

He also warned that ongoing regional instability benefits hostile actors and called on protestors to return to the negotiating table, emphasizing that dialogue remains the only viable path forward.
