Federal Minister Announces Major Relief: Karachi Port Tariff Hike Frozen

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced a major relief package for the business community by freezing the Karachi Port Trust’s (KPT) proposed 5 percent tariff increase for the fiscal year 2026-27 .

According to the minister, the tariff freeze will provide over Rs500 million in relief to importers and exporters .

Government’s Business-Friendly Vision

Speaking on the decision, Chaudhry stated that the relief measures are being implemented under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Blue Economy Vision, aimed at facilitating the business community and reducing costs for traders and industrialists .

“The freeze on KPT tariff will stabilize port costs and promote trade,” he said, adding that practical steps are being taken to boost exports, trade, and economic activity .

The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to business-friendly policies and facilitating traders. He further stated that the tariff freeze reflects the government’s dedication to ensuring that Karachi Port remains competitive and that the business community is not burdened with additional costs during challenging economic times .

Context

The decision comes as the federal government continues to focus on economic stabilization and trade facilitation. The relief is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s trade sector by reducing the cost of doing business at Pakistan’s busiest port .
