Pakistan expected to play key role in US-Iran Geneva agreement

Date:

Geneva, Switzerland – Web Desk: A possible agreement between the United States and Iran in Geneva is gaining momentum, with sources indicating that Pakistan is expected to play a key mediating role in the process.

According to Foreign Office sources, arrangements are being made to send senior officials and legal experts from Pakistan’s foreign ministry to Geneva should the agreement be finalized. It remains unclear whether any senior political leadership from Pakistan will also be present at the occasion.

Sources said Pakistan has played a significant behind-the-scenes role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran in recent months, including efforts that helped support ceasefire understandings.

Pakistan’s military leadership has also reportedly engaged with Iranian officials during recent high-level visits, including meetings focused on regional stability. Senior Pakistani officials have also delivered messages between the leadership of both countries.

US President Donald Trump has previously acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, praising its role in supporting regional de-escalation. Iranian officials have also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s mediation efforts in ongoing contacts.

Officials in Islamabad say Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has maintained regular communication with both US and Iranian counterparts as part of continuing diplomatic engagement.

Sources added that if a deal is signed in Geneva, Pakistan’s presence would symbolize its central role in facilitating early-stage negotiations between the two sides, including past direct talks hosted in the region.

Earlier rounds of US-Iran discussions held in April reportedly involved high-level representatives from both countries in extended meetings aimed at reducing tensions, although no final agreement was reached at the time.
