FIFA and AFC Call for Comprehensive Reforms to PFF Statutes

Date:

Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: FIFA and Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) officials have stressed the urgent need for governance reforms in Pakistan football, calling for improvements to the federation’s administrative structure and constitutional framework.

Speaking at a joint press conference, FIFA Head of Member Associations Governance Rolf Tanner said he had held extensive discussions with football stakeholders in Pakistan over the past two days and concluded that immediate reforms within the Pakistan Football Federation were essential.

Tanner expressed hope that Pakistan would soon introduce the necessary constitutional amendments to align its football governance system with modern international standards. He emphasized that FIFA would not tolerate any third-party interference in PFF affairs and noted that the federation’s financial matters are currently under review by FIFA’s relevant committees.

He said Pakistani football was moving in the right direction but stressed that all stakeholders must play a constructive role to ensure sustainable growth and development. According to Tanner, the proposed constitutional amendments would empower a broader range of stakeholders and help Pakistan achieve its international football objectives.

PFF President Mohsen Gilani said the federation’s constitution had not undergone any major revisions since 2013, making compliance with FIFA directives increasingly important. He warned that Pakistan risked falling further behind global football if reforms were delayed.

Gilani added that FIFA’s proposed reforms are aimed at strengthening football governance in Pakistan and confirmed that the audit of the Normalization Committee would be conducted by FIFA itself. He noted that Pakistan’s national teams continue to participate in international competitions while the federation remains focused on developing football at the domestic level.

The PFF president also announced plans to launch the Pakistan Football League in the near future. Despite limited financial resources, he said the federation remained committed to promoting football across the country and called on all stakeholders to contribute to the sport’s growth.

Gilani further clarified that the proposed constitutional amendments were not intended to expand his powers but rather to improve representation for women and other stakeholders, helping establish a stronger and more sustainable foundation for football in Pakistan.
