ISLAMABAD – Web Desk: European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas has described Pakistan as a major power in the region and a key partner of the EU, while praising Pakistan’s diplomatic role in reducing tensions between the United States and Iran.
At a joint press conference alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Kallas stated that Pakistan has the right to defend itself and its people under international law, noting that Pakistan-India tensions have had serious consequences and could have led to further instability. She said the EU consistently urged both countries to exercise restraint and reduce tensions, adding that negotiations are a better path than airstrikes in the current situation.
Kallas noted that Pakistan has been among the top countries receiving Erasmus Plus scholarships for the fifth consecutive year. She reiterated the EU’s readiness to play its role for a sustainable and peaceful solution in the Middle East.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan and the EU have agreed to promote trade, investment, and development cooperation. He stated that the solution to the occupied Kashmir dispute must be in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people and UN resolutions, reaffirming that the Indus Waters Treaty remains intact and that recent judicial decisions have supported Pakistan’s stance. Dar expressed gratitude for EU cooperation during the US-Iran conflict and raised concerns over the presence of Fitna Al-Khawarij and Fitna Al-Hindustan in Afghanistan, as well as terrorist elements operating from Afghan soil against Pakistan.
