Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Unannounced electricity outages in Karachi have begun affecting the city’s electric bus operations, raising concerns over public transportation services.
According to the administration of the Peoples Bus Service, electricity supply to the Mehran Depot has remained suspended for the past three days, disrupting the charging and operation of electric vehicles (EVs).
Officials said hybrid buses have temporarily been deployed in place of electric buses to maintain services on affected routes.
The impacted routes include EV-1, which operates between Malir Cantonment and Sea View, EV-3 connecting Malir Cantonment with Numaish, and the R-1 Pink Bus service running from Khokhrapar to Dockyard.
According to the administration, all three routes are operated from the Mehran Depot and rely on uninterrupted electricity for charging electric buses.
Transport authorities warned that if power supply is not restored soon, they may be forced to suspend these routes entirely, creating further difficulties for daily commuters.
The disruption comes amid growing complaints from residents over prolonged and unannounced load-shedding in various parts of Karachi, with citizens reporting significant inconvenience during the ongoing summer season.
