NYC Mayor Zahran Mamdani Announces $50 World Cup Tickets for Residents

Date:

NEW YORK – Web Desk: Following intense public backlash over FIFA World Cup ticket prices in New York, Mayor Zahran Mamdani has introduced a limited scheme offering $50 tickets to New York City residents.

According to international media reports, approximately 1,000 tickets have been allocated for city residents for various group stage and knockout matches, though the final is not included. The tickets will be distributed through a lottery system to ensure transparency. Reports indicate that around 150 seats will be included per match under this scheme, with successful applicants allowed to purchase a maximum of two tickets. Transport to and from matches is also included.

Mayor Mamdani stated that this initiative aims to connect local citizens to a major event like the World Cup and reduce the exclusion of fans due to high prices, arguing that major sporting events should not be limited only to the wealthy. It is worth noting that World Cup ticket prices and dynamic pricing mechanisms have already faced intense criticism, with various groups urging FIFA to lower prices and provide more facilities for local fans.
