TEHRAN – Web Desk: Iran’s emergence as a great and influential power is directly tied to its population growth, said Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, urging effective measures to increase the country’s birth rate.
In a message issued on National Population Day, the Iranian Supreme Leader highlighted the need to boost fertility rates and called for accelerating efforts to promote childbearing, according to Iranian media reports.
Khamenei was responding to a letter from activists working in the population sector, who had expressed condolences and love following the martyrdom of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Mojtaba Khamenei stated that the need for population increase is sometimes seen merely as compensation for past policy shortcomings, but emphasized that there is a far more important strategic dimension to it. “By implementing a correct and reliable population growth policy, the great Iranian nation will be able to achieve major roles and strategic successes in the future and take great steps toward forming a new Islamic Iranian civilization,” he said.
He noted that the late Leader (Ayatollah Ali Khamenei) had attached great importance to this issue in meetings and correspondence with both public and private audiences, describing it as one of the most critical strategic matters of the Islamic system.
The Supreme Leader praised grassroots activists working in the population sector and encouraged them to continue their efforts. “The growing efforts of public activists in the population sector and the promotion of childbearing can have a significant impact on achieving a bright future,” Khamenei said, adding that “the continuity of the Iranian nation’s power is directly tied to population growth.”
