Mersin, Turkey – Web Desk: At least four people were killed and eight others wounded in a horrific shooting incident in Turkey’s southern province of Mersin, as an armed assailant opened indiscriminate fire inside a restaurant and later on passersby. The attacker remains at large despite an extensive manhunt involving helicopters and special forces.
According to a global news agency, the gunman first entered a restaurant in the Tarsus district and began firing randomly, killing two people on the spot. Among the deceased are the restaurant owner and an employee.
The assailant did not stop there. As he fled the scene, he continued shooting at bystanders outside, killing a shepherd and a truck driver. While escaping by vehicle, the attacker fired additional rounds along the route, wounding eight more people.
Police officials stated that three of the injured are in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll may rise. Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the attack.
Turkish police have launched a large-scale search operation to apprehend the suspect. Helicopters and special forces units are being deployed to conduct searches across multiple areas. However, as of now, no arrest has been made.
