FBR Tightens Monitoring to Stop Tax Evasion in Bottled Water

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Federal Board of Revenue has announced a major crackdown on tax evasion in the bottled water industry by introducing a strict electronic production monitoring system across the sector.

According to the FBR, advanced technology will be used to closely monitor production processes and ensure accurate collection of sales tax through a real-time electronic monitoring framework.

The tax authority has directed all bottled water companies in Pakistan to complete installation of the required systems by June 15, 2026.

Under the new mechanism, companies will be required to install industrial barcode scanners, counting sensors, IP cameras, network video recorders, programmable controllers, and LED display systems. An uninterrupted power supply system will also be mandatory for the monitoring setup.

The FBR said a dedicated production monitoring software will transmit real-time data directly to the authority. Automated bottle counting through object detection technology will help track production volume, operational speed, and suspicious activities instantly.

Officials added that all production data will be archived for legal and audit purposes. The FBR also clarified that no vendor will be allowed to install the system without prior approval from the tax authority.

In addition, Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue have been appointed as focal persons to oversee the implementation process.

The move is part of broader government efforts to improve tax compliance, increase revenue collection, and reduce undocumented economic activity in Pakistan.
