Paris, France – Web Desk: France has deployed its aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle toward the southern Red Sea as part of a planned mission linked to maritime security operations near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the French Ministry of Defence, the carrier strike group, accompanied by several warships, is transiting through the Suez Canal en route to the region.
The French presidency said the deployment is intended to demonstrate France’s readiness, along with its partners, to ensure maritime security in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
Officials also stressed that France wants the situation in the strategic waterway to remain separate from ongoing US–Iran diplomatic negotiations.
The Defence Ministry added that the pre-positioning of forces is designed to reduce response time, allowing rapid deployment if operational conditions require it.
The Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier is capable of carrying around 20 Rafale fighter jets and operates alongside multiple escort frigates as part of a carrier strike group.
