Washington, United States – Web Desk: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the removal of tariffs and trade restrictions on Scotch whisky and Kentucky bourbon, coinciding with the recent visit of the British royal couple to the United States.
In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the decision was made to mark the visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who have now concluded their trip and departed from the White House.
Trump said lifting the tariffs would support the whisky industry in Scotland and the bourbon sector in the U.S. state of Kentucky, both of which play a significant role in their respective economies.
He added that trade ties between the regions, particularly involving the exchange of wooden barrels used in whisky and bourbon production, have historically been strong and are expected to grow further under the new policy.
The U.S. president described the royal visit as an honor, saying it inspired a decision that would enhance economic cooperation and strengthen transatlantic trade relations.
