Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched the “Apna Ghar” (Own Home) scheme, announcing major relief measures in the upcoming federal budget to provide affordable housing to citizens.
Addressing a ceremony in the federal capital, the Prime Minister said that under the scheme, citizens will be provided loans of up to Rs10 million on easy terms to construct their own homes. The project has been extended to all four provinces as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
“The government has set a target of providing loans for 50,000 homes in the first phase of this project, for which Rs321 billion in financing has been allocated,” PM Shehbaz announced.
He said the scheme aims to provide housing to those deprived of shelter, calling it a key national responsibility. Over the next four years, the government has set a target of constructing 500,000 homes.
The total volume of the scheme will reach Rs3.2 trillion, under which housing construction on plots of up to 10 marlas will be facilitated. The Prime Minister assured that he will personally review the project’s progress every month to ensure effective implementation.
Banks that play an active role in the scheme will be specially recognized, with awards for outstanding performance to be given on August 14, PM Shehbaz said.
“This initiative will not only boost the construction sector but also increase activity in industry and trade, creating signs of economic improvement,” he added.
The launch of the housing scheme is seen as a major populist move ahead of the federal budget, with analysts saying it could generate economic activity across multiple sectors while addressing housing shortages.
