Flash Floods Wreak Havoc in Pakistan’s Orakzai District

Date:

Peshawar, Pakistan – Web Desk: Heavy torrential rains have triggered flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Orakzai district, destroying dozens of shops and houses and sweeping away multiple vehicles and motorcycles, officials said Wednesday.

According to local authorities, the downpour at Masti Mela triggered sudden floodwaters that engulfed everything in their path. Several cars and motorcycles were also caught in the rushing water. No casualty figures have been officially released yet.

In Lahore and various parts of Punjab, morning rains caused low-lying areas to become waterlogged, though no major damage was immediately reported.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast partly cloudy weather with gusty winds and thundershowers for several districts across the province, including Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Bajaur, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Shangla, and Kohistan.

Similar weather is expected in Torghar, Batgram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, Orakzai, and Waziristan, with strong winds and lightning possible.

Over the past 24 hours, the provincial capital Peshawar experienced a maximum wind speed of 37 kilometers per hour, accompanied by dusty winds in the plains.

Rainfall recorded during the last 24 hours includes: Charat 18mm, Kalam 11mm, Chitral 9mm, Peshawar City 4mm (A/P 1mm), Mohmand Dam 4mm, Takht Bhai 3mm, Mirkhani, Darosh, and Patan 2mm each, and Timergara 1mm.

Authorities have advised residents in hilly areas to remain cautious as more rain is expected, which could trigger additional flooding and landslides. Emergency response teams have been placed on alert in the affected districts.
