BRUSSELS – Web Desk: The European Union has signaled a potential easing of economic sanctions imposed on Iran, according to statements made by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Speaking after an EU meeting, Merz indicated that sanctions on Iran could be relaxed if Tehran shows compromise. Notably, no member state opposed the proposal to consider sanction relief during the EU assembly.
In a separate remark, the German Chancellor dismissed the possibility of Ukraine’s immediate accession to the European Union. “Ukraine’s immediate membership in the EU is not possible,” Merz said, though he noted that a process for Ukraine’s future membership has been proposed.
