CHANTILLY, France – Web Desk: The United Arab Emirates has officially labeled Iran a strategic threat, with a top presidential adviser stating that restoring trust with Tehran will take a “very long time” following Iranian attacks on the Emirates during the recent Middle East conflict.
Addressing a global policy conference in Chantilly, France, UAE Presidential Diplomatic Adviser Anwar Gargash said approximately 89 percent of nearly 2,800 Iranian missile and drone strikes targeted civilians, infrastructure, and energy systems.
“The region has suffered a deepening of mistrust,” Gargash said. “Iran will now be seen as a permanent strategic threat.”
He further noted that Iran carried out numerous attacks on the UAE during its war with the United States and Israel. “It cannot be that someone launches 2,800 missiles and drones at you and then talks about confidence-building,” Gargash added.
The remarks signal a major hardening of the UAE’s position toward Tehran, with significant implications for Gulf security and regional diplomacy.
