EU Urged to Suspend Israel Deal by Spain, Ireland, Slovenia

Date:

Luxembourg, – Web Desk: Spain, Ireland and Slovenia have jointly urged the European Union to consider suspending its association agreement with Israel, citing rising regional tensions and human rights concerns.

The call comes ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, where the bloc is expected to review its foreign policy stance amid escalating geopolitical developments.

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares confirmed that the three countries had sent a joint letter to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, urging an immediate reassessment of relations with Israel.

The letter calls for concrete measures in light of the current situation, including the possible suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement. According to reports, the move is driven in part by ongoing tensions in Lebanon and a recently approved Israeli law that could allow capital punishment for certain Palestinian prisoners convicted in military courts.

The proposal has intensified debate within the European Union, where member states remain divided over how to approach relations with Israel amid growing scrutiny over human rights and regional stability.
