Russia Safely Evacuates 198 Staff from Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Plant

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Russia has safely evacuated 198 of its personnel from Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant following recent U.S. and Israeli attacks that resulted in one casualty, according to Russian media reports.

The affected employee, an Iranian national, died after debris fell within the facility. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that part of the plant’s infrastructure was damaged, but Russia had already scheduled its staff withdrawal following the attacks in late February.

Alexei Likhachov, head of Russia’s state nuclear company Rosatom, said the incidents near the plant could indicate potentially severe scenarios. Russian President Vladimir Putin has been briefed on the situation.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova strongly condemned the attacks, calling them “diabolical acts” that endanger human lives, and demanded immediate cessation of such strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed the attacks and highlighted the risks of radioactive fallout potentially affecting neighboring Gulf countries rather than Iran itself. He emphasized that recent attacks on petrochemical facilities reveal the underlying strategic motives.
