Legal Experts Call Iran Strikes Potential War Crimes

Date:

Washington, United States – Web Desk: More than 100 international law experts based in the United States have signed an open letter condemning recent U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran, describing them as violations of international law and potentially amounting to war crimes.

The signatories argued that the attacks, which reportedly began on February 28, were carried out without authorization from the United Nations Security Council and lacked credible evidence of an imminent threat from Iran.

According to media reports, the letter raises serious concerns about the conduct of U.S. forces and statements made by senior American officials, warning that these actions may breach both international human rights law and international humanitarian law.

The experts emphasized that under the United Nations Charter, the use of force against another state is only permissible in self-defense against an actual or imminent armed attack, or when explicitly authorized by the Security Council.

They further noted that neither condition appears to have been met, as no Security Council approval was granted and there has been no confirmed Iranian attack against the United States or Israel.

The statement underscores growing international scrutiny over the legality of military actions in the Middle East, as tensions continue to escalate in the region.
