Former Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi Dies After Attack

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Former Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Kamal Kharazi has died from injuries sustained during a joint U.S. and Israeli attack on his residence in Tehran, marking the loss of a key diplomatic figure in Iran.

Reports indicate that Dr. Kharazi’s wife was killed in the attack, while he was critically injured and hospitalized in a coma, where he later passed away. Iranian sources confirmed his death, describing it as a significant loss for the country’s diplomacy and academic circles.

Kharazi, 81, served as Iran’s foreign minister from 1997 to 2005 during President Mohammad Khatami’s administration and was considered one of the architects of the nation’s foreign policy. He later served as a senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leadership and headed the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, providing counsel on critical international matters.

Media reports highlight that Kharazi was actively involved in diplomatic channels related to Pakistan, prompting analysts to suggest the attack could undermine ongoing international negotiations. Beyond diplomacy, he was also a respected academic and author.

Kharazi’s death underscores the ongoing tensions in the region and the vulnerability of even senior diplomatic figures amid escalating geopolitical conflicts.
