Iran Loses Strategic Leader Ali Larijani in Israeli Airstrike

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has suffered a major strategic loss with the death of Ali Larijani, a powerful political and security figure, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran, according to Iranian state media. Gholamreza Soleimani, head of Iran’s Basij Forces, was also killed in the same attack.

Larijani, 67, had been considered Iran’s de facto leader following the death of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, serving as Secretary of the National Security Council and a key strategist in both political and military affairs. Born on June 3, 1958, in Najaf, Iraq, he hailed from a prominent religious and political family.

He held a PhD in philosophy, focusing on Western thinkers like Immanuel Kant, and had a long career that included service in the Revolutionary Guards, roles as Minister of Culture, head of state TV, and a long tenure as Speaker of the Iranian Parliament. Larijani was a central figure in the 2015 nuclear deal, known as a moderate and pragmatic politician, though recent conflicts saw him adopt a tougher stance against the U.S. and Israel.

Reports indicate he was targeted while at a secret location in Tehran, and his death is considered a major strategic setback for Iran, disrupting political leadership, military strategy, and diplomatic coordination.
