China Urges US to Immediately Halt Arms Sales to Taiwan

Date:

Beijing – Web Desk : China has urged the United States to immediately stop selling weapons to Taiwan, warning that such actions could undermine stability in the region.

Speaking to journalists in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Washington must strictly adhere to the China–US Joint Communiqué, particularly the August 17 Communiqué, which addresses U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.

The spokesperson was responding to reports suggesting that the administration of Donald Trump may approve a new weapons package for Taiwan following the U.S. president’s upcoming visit to China. The package is expected to include advanced interceptor missiles, according to media reports.

China called on Washington, D.C. to take concrete steps to safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, while also ensuring the steady development of China–U.S. relations.

Beijing has repeatedly opposed U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, viewing them as interference in China’s internal affairs and a threat to regional security.
