US Vetoes Russia’s UN Ceasefire Resolution Amid Gulf Tensions

Date:

New York, USA – Web Desk: The United Nations Security Council failed to pass a Russian-led ceasefire resolution aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Middle East, after the United States exercised its veto.

The proposed resolution, supported by four council members, called for an immediate halt to hostilities and a cessation of attacks on Iran. However, two members opposed it while nine were absent during the vote.

Separately, the Security Council approved a resolution condemning Iranian attacks on Gulf states, with 13 members voting in favor. China and Russia abstained, while Pakistan supported the measure. The resolution urged Tehran to immediately cease attacks on neighboring Gulf nations, emphasizing that such acts violate international law and threaten global peace and security.

During the session, Russia’s representative argued that regional tensions escalated following US and Israeli strikes on Iran. He stressed that targeting civilian populations is unacceptable and called for the immediate cessation of attacks on Iran.
