New York, USA – Web Desk: The UN Security Council has overwhelmingly approved a resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on Gulf countries, with 13 members voting in favor while China and Russia were absent.
The resolution, tabled by Gulf states and co-sponsored by Pakistan, highlights that Iran’s strikes threaten regional peace and security. Pakistan voted in favor, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and protection of civilians, noting that two Pakistani citizens were killed in UAE attacks.
Gulf nations, including Bahrain and the UAE, stressed the need for decisive action against Iran, highlighting attacks on civilian infrastructure such as oil refineries, airports, and hotels. The US representative called for global cooperation to halt Iran’s aggression, warning that civilian targets continue to be struck.
While Russia criticized the resolution as one-sided, arguing that US-Israel attacks precipitated the crisis, China called for immediate cessation of all hostilities and stressed diplomatic solutions. The UK and Bahrain reinforced the need to protect civilians and ensure stability in the region.
The resolution reportedly had the support of 135 countries, marking one of the largest global endorsements in UN history for a Gulf-related security resolution.
