Peshawar, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has warned of potential flash floods in the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as heavy rainfall is forecast to begin on Tuesday.
According to the authority, rain is expected to continue until Thursday across several northern parts of the province, raising concerns about sudden flooding in mountainous areas.
Risk of Flash Floods
Officials said intense rainfall in vulnerable regions could trigger flash floods in streams and valleys, particularly in upper districts where steep terrain increases the risk of rapid water accumulation.
The PDMA has urged district administrations to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness to handle any emergency situation.
Warning Over Glacial Lake Outburst Floods
The authority also warned that the likelihood of Glacial Lake Outburst Flood incidents has increased due to an unusual rise in temperatures.
Higher temperatures can accelerate glacier melting, causing glacial lakes to expand and potentially burst, leading to sudden and powerful flooding downstream.
Such events pose a serious threat to nearby communities, infrastructure, and agricultural land.
Authorities Issue Safety Instructions
The disaster management authority has directed local administrations to take precautionary measures, including monitoring vulnerable areas and ensuring emergency response teams remain ready.
Residents living in high-risk zones have been advised to stay informed through official weather updates and strictly follow safety guidelines issued by authorities.
Officials stressed that timely preparedness and awareness could help minimize risks during the expected spell of heavy rain.
