Iranian Attack Hits Oil Companies; Bahrain Declares Force Majeure

Date:

Manama, Bahrain – Web Desk: Bahrain’s state-owned energy firm, Bapco Energies, has declared force majeure following a damaging Iranian attack on its refinery last week, disrupting operations and delaying contractual deliveries.

The 90-year-old refinery, recently upgraded to produce nearly 400,000 barrels per day with advanced units for jet fuel and diesel, suffered substantial damage. The company stated that local market needs are being prioritized despite operational disruptions.

The regional energy sector is facing broader impacts due to heightened tensions with Iran. Qatar Energy had earlier invoked force majeure for its world’s largest LNG plant, while Kuwait has reduced production at oil fields and refineries.

Force majeure clauses allow companies to temporarily suspend supply obligations under contracts during extraordinary events such as war or natural disasters. Industry analysts warn that escalating conflicts in the Gulf may continue to disrupt energy supply and global oil markets.
