Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Sindh High Court has reserved its verdict on a petition filed by retired Water Corporation officer Zahid Khan regarding non-payment of his retirement dues.
During proceedings, government counsel highlighted discrepancies in Zahid Khan’s service record, noting multiple dates of birth listed in his service book, which was under the petitioner’s custody.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that Zahid Khan retired in 2024, whereas government records suggested that, based on his service book dates, he should have retired in 2022, implying that he served an additional two years.
The court remarked that irrespective of the birth date, a 60-year service period would be recognized. The bench noted that if the department required him to work the extra two years, the petitioner should not be held responsible.
Further discussion included evidence of Zahid Khan’s birth year (1964) as per his educational certificates, while government counsel pointed out that records showed he was only 16 years old when he joined service, raising questions about his eligibility at the time of employment.
The court said, “If a person was underage at joining, how can he claim dues for the entire service? Records will be verified accordingly.”
After hearing arguments from both sides, the Sindh High Court reserved its decision, with final orders expected in the coming weeks.
