Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Punjab government has approved a Rs 3 billion plan to install 30 state-of-the-art fog cannons on electric trucks to combat smog and air pollution in major urban and industrial areas.
This initiative is part of the provincial government’s comprehensive Clean Air and Climate Resilient Strategy, aimed at reducing pollution and strengthening the environmental ecosystem. Officials stated that the fog cannon project will play a crucial role in cities with severe air quality issues, effectively reducing harmful airborne particles.
Under the Lahore Air Improvement Framework, Rs 2.25 billion has been allocated for an integrated program to ensure cleaner air. For the first time, a superstation system will enable real-time identification of pollution sources, while the “One City, One Policy” model will implement modern air quality governance. Over 50 advanced air quality monitors have already been installed across Punjab, supported by an automated quality assurance system to ensure data accuracy and transparency.
To control industrial emissions effectively, a digital environmental monitoring system is being activated. Additionally, environmental laboratories are being upgraded, equipped with advanced instruments, and special forensic facilities are being set up for emissions analysis. An Environment and Climate Delivery Unit will monitor the project’s performance through a digital dashboard.
Officials said these measures will not only reduce smog but also safeguard public health and promote sustainable environmental improvement across Punjab.
