Indian University Stall Shut After Claiming Chinese Robot as Own

Date:

New Delhi, India – Web Desk: A controversy erupted at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi after a professor from a private university showcased a Chinese-made robot dog and claimed it was developed by her university.

The silver robot, produced by Chinese startup UniTree, was displayed at Galgotians University’s exhibition stall. During a televised interview, the professor introduced the robot as a creation of the university’s Centers of Excellence. The robot demonstrated movements such as waving and standing on two legs.

Following the viral spread of the video on social media, the university faced intense criticism. The university later clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that it did not develop the robot and that no such claim was made. The stall was subsequently shut down and electricity cut off.

Officials stated the robot was recently acquired for educational purposes, allowing students to conduct experiments. Opposition party Congress criticized the incident, calling it a national embarrassment and accusing the government of mishandling India’s technological reputation.
