Washington, USA — Web Desk: A Republican member of the US Congress has drawn widespread criticism after making remarks about Muslims that civil rights groups and political leaders have condemned as offensive and discriminatory.
Florida Congressman Randy Fine compared Muslims to dogs in a post on social media platform X, triggering outrage across the United States. Civil rights organisations and community groups accused the lawmaker of promoting hatred and called for his resignation.
California Governor Gavin Newsom also criticised the comments and urged Fine to step down, according to US media reports.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) called on House leadership to formally condemn the remarks and take action against the congressman, describing the comments as dehumanising and part of a broader pattern of anti-Muslim rhetoric. The organisation noted that Fine has previously made controversial statements about Muslims and Palestinians.
Critics warned that such remarks could fuel discrimination and hostility against Muslim communities in the United States. Fine, however, defended his position, saying he was not afraid of being labelled Islamophobic and citing his involvement with a congressional group that opposes what it claims is the influence of Islamic law in the US.
Republican leadership has not announced any disciplinary measures so far, but pressure for Fine’s resignation continues to grow.
