Pakistan Considers Major Squad Changes Ahead of Namibia T20 Clash

Date:

Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and national team management are reportedly considering significant changes to the playing XI ahead of their crucial ICC T20 World Cup 2026 match against Namibia.

Sources indicate that two to three changes could be made, potentially giving opportunities to bench players while resting some senior stars. This match is vital for Pakistan’s chances of advancing to the Super Eight stage, with defeat possibly complicating qualification. However, if the match is abandoned due to rain, Pakistan would earn a point, keeping hopes alive for the next stage.

Following Pakistan’s 61-run defeat to India in the group stage, former cricketers criticized the team’s performance, suggesting that key players such as Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Shadab Khan could be rested. PCB management is reportedly considering these recommendations.

The potential changes include Salman Mirza replacing Shaheen Afridi, Fakhar Zaman taking Babar Azam’s place, and Naseem Shah possibly replacing Shadab Khan or Mohammad Nawaz. Final decisions on the playing XI will be confirmed just before the match, as the management aims to field a balanced combination to enhance competitiveness against Namibia.

Team management sources emphasized that the strategic adjustments are designed to optimize performance, manage player workload, and increase Pakistan’s chances of advancing further in the tournament.
