Beijing – Web Desk: China has announced that citizens of the United Kingdom and Canada can now travel to China without a visa. The measure will take effect on Tuesday and remain valid until December 31, according to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The decision follows recent visits by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to Beijing, where both leaders met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other senior officials to strengthen bilateral relations.
Under the new policy, UK and Canadian passport holders can stay in China for up to 30 days for purposes including business, tourism, visiting family and friends, exchange programs, or transit. Chinese authorities said the move aims to promote people-to-people ties and cultural exchange.
Separately, Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi met German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during the Munich Security Conference, signaling China’s intent to advance its comprehensive strategic partnership with Germany. Experts note that China is actively working to strengthen ties with the European Union, especially as Europe seeks a balanced approach in its foreign policy.
This latest move is seen as part of China’s broader effort to boost international connectivity and foster diplomatic goodwill with major Western nations.
