Muscat, Oman – Web Desk: Following indirect nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran in Muscat, the US has announced new sanctions on Iranian oil and petrochemical exports. The talks, mediated by Oman’s Foreign Ministry, were described by President Donald Trump as “very good,” signaling cautious optimism despite continued regional tensions.
The US and Iranian delegations did not meet directly but held separate meetings with the Omani Foreign Minister, presenting their demands and concerns. While Trump praised the discussions, he warned that failure to reach an agreement would result in severe consequences.
The new sanctions aim to curb Iran’s illegal oil and petrochemical exports and are part of a broader US pressure campaign. Iran welcomed the positive atmosphere of the talks and agreed to further indirect meetings, with the second round scheduled for next week.
The discussions come amid heightened US military presence in the region and follow last year’s joint US-Israel strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and military personnel, marking the first such diplomatic engagement since those attacks.
