Prime Minister invites Uzbek investors, highlights rice and potato export potential
Islamabad, Pakistan — Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to boost bilateral trade with Uzbekistan to $2 billion by 2029, calling it a realistic and achievable target through enhanced private-sector collaboration.
Addressing the Pakistan–Uzbekistan Business Forum, the prime minister invited Uzbek investors to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan, noting that trade volume reached $450 million after the previous forum but holds significant room for expansion.
Shehbaz Sharif said that Uzbekistan has strong demand for Pakistani rice and potatoes, which Pakistan is well-positioned to supply. He also described over $3 billion worth of agreements between the private sectors of both countries as a major breakthrough.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed firm resolve to ensure effective implementation of all bilateral agreements, emphasizing long-term economic cooperation.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office issued a joint declaration, stating that Pakistan has offered its ports and road networks for Uzbek transit cargo. The statement also confirmed mutual approval of the Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan railway project, a key regional connectivity initiative.
In a separate ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Mirziyoyev was awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the country’s highest civilian honor.
