(Web Desk) – Apple has released the third iOS 26.3 beta for iPhone users this week. The update highlights deeper interoperability with Android devices and introduces new features aimed at privacy and third-party smartwatch support, particularly in Europe.
Apple says iOS 26.3 is designed to improve cross-platform compatibility and prepare the operating system for upcoming regulatory changes. Several of the most notable features are already available to testers.
Easier switching with ‘transfer to android’
The biggest change in iOS 26.3 is a new “Transfer to Android” system. Apple says the feature was developed in collaboration with Google to make switching between platforms simpler.
A similar tool has also appeared in the latest Android beta, allowing transfers in both directions. The aim is to improve interoperability between iPhone and Android devices.
What data can be moved
Apple explains that users simply need to place their Android device next to an iPhone to begin the wireless transfer.
Photos, messages, notes, apps, and other data can be moved to the new Android phone.
The system also transfers the user’s phone number.
However, Apple notes that sensitive data such as Health information, Bluetooth device pairings, and locked notes are not included.
Both Apple and Google say additional data types may be added as beta testing continues.
New Privacy Option to Limit Location Data Sharing
iOS 26.3 introduces a new privacy feature called “limit price location,” according to Apple’s support documentation.
The option allows users to restrict how precisely cellular networks can determine their location.
For example, carriers may only be able to see the general neighborhood instead of an exact address.
Supported devices and carriers
To use the feature, users need:
- iPhone Air, iPhone 16e, or iPad Pro (M5) Wi-Fi + Cellular
- iOS 26.3 or later
- A supported carrier
Supported carriers include:
- Germany: Telekom
- United Kingdom: EE, BT
- United States: Boost Mobile
- Thailand: AIS, True
The toggle can be found under Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options.
Notification forwarding to third-party smartwatches
Another major addition in iOS 26.3 is “Notification Forwarding.”
The feature allows iPhone notifications to appear on a third-party smartwatch or other wearable.
Apple says notifications can be forwarded to one accessory at a time.
When enabled, notifications will no longer appear on Apple Watch.
The setting is available in the Notifications section of the Settings app.
At launch, the feature is limited to the European Union.
Apple is preparing for Digital Markets Act (DMA) rules that require broader device interoperability.
While Apple has raised privacy concerns, the company says it must comply with the regulation.
More interoperability features coming to EU
In addition to Notification Forwarding, iOS 26.3 includes several EU-focused updates:
- Proximity pairing for third-party accessories, similar to AirPods
- New NFC features for initiating device connections
- High-bandwidth Wi-Fi for peer-to-peer connections
Apple says the new high-bandwidth Wi-Fi technology also powers the Android-to-iPhone transfer system.
In a statement to 9to5Mac, the European Union welcomed the update.
The Commission said the DMA is creating new opportunities for developers and helping build a more interconnected digital ecosystem.
EU officials added that the interoperability features introduced in the iOS 26.3 beta are expected to be fully available in Europe during 2026.
Apple has also hinted at new wallpapers in iOS 26.3.
However, no specific details about these visual updates have been shared so far.
