Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has lauded Myanmar’s efforts in combating human trafficking and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations during a meeting with Myanmar Foreign Minister Than Swe on Tuesday.

The high-level discussion highlighted mutual interest in enhancing cooperation across trade, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Prime Minister Shehbaz praised Myanmar for its proactive measures against human trafficking, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to tackle this transnational issue that affects both nations.

Foreign Minister Than Swe conveyed goodwill messages from Myanmar’s leadership and expressed a keen desire to deepen ties in areas of shared interest. The meeting underscored a commitment to constructive diplomacy and long-term strategic partnership between Pakistan and Myanmar.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also received thanks from Myanmar for Pakistan’s prompt assistance following the devastating earthquake that struck the country on March 28, 2025. Islamabad’s timely aid demonstrated Pakistan’s dedication to humanitarian support and regional cooperation, strengthening goodwill between the two neighboring nations.

The discussions are part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to enhance regional connectivity and collaboration with Southeast Asian countries. Both sides agreed on the need to promote sustainable trade initiatives, cultural exchanges, and educational partnerships, which will bolster economic growth and foster stronger people-to-people bonds.

Analysts note that Pakistan’s engagement with Myanmar reflects a focused approach to regional stability, countering transnational crime, and promoting development-driven diplomacy. Human trafficking remains a key security and humanitarian challenge in South and Southeast Asia, and bilateral cooperation is seen as vital for addressing the root causes and improving law enforcement effectiveness.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to regular dialogue and exploring further avenues for mutual collaboration. Strengthened Pakistan-Myanmar relations are expected to contribute to regional peace, economic development, and social progress, reinforcing Islamabad’s role as a proactive partner in Southeast Asia.
