Repeated bomb threats expose India’s aviation security gaps amid airline financial crisis
New Delhi, India – Web Desk: India’s aviation sector is facing a severe crisis as an IndiGo flight received its second bomb threat in just five days. The flight from Delhi to Pune was immediately redirected to an isolation bay after air traffic control alerted security authorities.
Earlier this week, another IndiGo flight was diverted to Lucknow following a similar security threat. Experts warn that repeated threats along the same routes highlight weaknesses in India’s aviation security system and suggest attempts to divert attention from governmental failures.
Bloomberg reports that the financial strain on national carriers, including Air India Limited, is intensifying. Following the June Dreamliner crash that killed over 240 passengers, Air India faces approximately $1.6 billion in losses. Pakistan’s closure of its airspace has forced Indian airlines to take longer, costlier routes to Europe and the U.S., further escalating operational expenses.
Business intelligence platform Toffler states that Air India has suffered a total loss of 322.1 billion rupees over the past three years, reflecting severe mismanagement and political interference in the Indian aviation sector. Analysts attribute the growing deficit to political pressure, poor administration, and security lapses, with the June accident marking one of the worst safety failures in India’s aviation history.
