ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is set to officially launch the health card programme today (Friday), offering free healthcare services to residents of Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The new programme will be available through a health card linked to citizens’ identity cards, providing access to medical treatment at both public and private hospitals across the country.
Under this initiative, individuals will be able to avail themselves of free medical services at over 640 private and government hospitals nationwide, starting today. The program will remain in effect until June 30, 2027.
The “health card” initiative had been suspended two years ago, causing significant challenges for residents of Islamabad, especially for treatments related to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, kidney issues, and accidents.
With the launch of the new program, citizens will be able to receive treatment for these conditions at no cost.
The Universal Health Coverage Program, worth Rs41 billion, will allow each family to access up to Rs1 million worth of medical treatment annually.
