U.S. President Donald Trump declared that America will oversee all affairs in Venezuela until a formal transfer of power takes place, warning that a second military strike could follow if necessary.
Trump shared on social media a photo of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s arrest, stating that the U.S. military acted on his direct orders. Speaking at a press conference, Trump said American forces carried out strikes late last night and again this morning, disabling Venezuela’s military capabilities.
He added that much of Caracas was plunged into darkness during the operation, while U.S. troops captured President Maduro and his wife. “Since World War II, the world has not witnessed an attack of this scale,” Trump said, emphasizing that the United States possesses the most advanced weaponry. He noted that while the U.S. is prepared for another strike, it may not be necessary, as Washington will manage Venezuela’s affairs until power is formally transferred.
Trump further highlighted that 97 percent of narcotics entering the U.S. arrive via sea routes, and described the operation in Venezuela as historic, aimed at relieving decades of suffering among its people. He confirmed that Maduro and his wife are currently aboard a naval vessel en route to New York.
