Pakistan hints at targeting TTP hideouts inside Afghanistan

Date:

NEW YORK (Web Desk): Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, has indicated possible action against Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists present in Afghanistan.

Asim Iftikhar said that around 6,000 TTP fighters are present in Afghanistan. If the Taliban do not take action against the TTP, Pakistan will take measures for its own security, he stated.

He said that Afghanistan has once again become a sanctuary for terrorist groups and their proxies and added that terrorism emanating from Afghan soil poses a serious threat to Pakistan. There is solid evidence that terrorist groups in Afghanistan are cooperating with one another, he said.

Asim Iftikhar said that Pakistan has successfully foiled numerous infiltration attempts by the terrorists. He said that our brave armed forces and civilians have made tremendous sacrifices. A UN report has also confirmed the presence of TTP on Afghan soil.

Asim Iftikhar further said that the devastating situation in Afghanistan is affecting the entire region. The war is over — Afghan refugees should return to their homeland, he said.

The final report from a government watchdog tasked with overseeing Afghanistan reconstruction efforts declared that “U.S. taxpayer-funded equipment, weapons, and facilities” left behind during the chaotic 2021 U.S. withdrawal have now “formed the core of the Taliban security apparatus.”
