Another child falls into Karachi manhole days after NIPA tragedy

Date:

KARACHI (Web Desk)- Another child has fallen into an open manhole in Karachi, but this time a major tragedy was narrowly avoided.

According to reports, a young girl slipped into an uncovered sewer in the Manghopir area, near Garam Chashma.

The child, identified as Anaya Ameen, is a first-grade student at a nearby private school. She was on her way home after classes when the accident occurred.
Fortunately, a passerby witnessed the incident and immediately jumped in to rescue her, pulling her out safely within moments.

Residents expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that open manholes have become a serious danger to children across the city. They criticized the negligence of authorities, noting that such hazards continue to put innocent lives at risk.

This latest happening comes just days after a heartbreaking tragedy in Gulshan-e-Iqbal near NIPA Chowrangi, where a three-year-old boy named Ibrahim fell into an open sewer and lost his life. His body was discovered nearly 14 hours later, about one kilometer from the site of the fall.

In the aftermath of the incident, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab visited Ibrahim’s family, accepted responsibility on behalf of the administration, and apologized for the tragedy. Murtaza Wahab also stated that there is no shortage of manhole covers but actually they are stolen.
