Pakistan prefers dialogue, diplomacy for dispute resolution, says Dar

Date:

(Web Desk) – Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Ishaq Dar said on Wednesday that Pakistan remains committed to resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, warning that unresolved global conflicts continue to undermine international peace.

Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, the DPM noted that South Asia faces persistent challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, and recurring natural disasters, conditions he said require collective attention from regional states.

Dar emphasised that the Kashmir dispute, long considered the region’s most enduring flashpoint, continues to pose a serious threat to stability.

He described the security landscape in South Asia as “highly complex” and cautioned that a potential Pakistan-India confrontation in May 2025 could have had dangerous consequences.

The deputy prime minister also criticised India’s unilateral announcement to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a step that further strains an already tense environment.

He added that climate change has emerged as a formidable challenge for South Asian nations, exacerbating humanitarian and economic vulnerabilities across the region.

Turning to the Middle East, Dar condemned Israeli actions in Gaza, describing them as “a massacre of humanity.” He urged the international community to adopt a more decisive role in addressing what he termed ongoing human suffering in the besieged territory.
