French Archaeologists Launch 10th Excavation Phase at Chanhon Jo Daro

Date:

Sakrand (Report by Ghulam Mustafa Jalalani):
The tenth phase of archaeological excavations has begun at the ancient site of Chanhon Jo Daro, near Sakrand, with a team of French archaeologists led by Dr. Arora resuming their research in collaboration with the Sindh Department of Culture and Antiquities.

Dr. Arora said that Chanhon Jo Daro holds historical importance equal to that of Mohenjo Daro, noting that each phase of excavation continues to unveil remarkable traces of the Indus Valley Civilization. “Every layer we uncover reveals new insights into the life, art, and society of one of the world’s earliest urban cultures,” she added.

This latest phase has already yielded rare antiquities, ancient tools, pottery, and household artifacts, offering deeper understanding of Sindh’s rich cultural and historical legacy.

Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, Dr. Arora said, “The kindness and hospitality of the Sindhi people are what keep drawing us back to this land.” She noted that the ongoing excavation and documentation process will continue for another four weeks, with expectations of significant new discoveries.

As one of the key heritage sites of Sindh, Chanhon Jo Daro continues to attract international scholarly attention, reinforcing its place as a vital link in the chain of the ancient Indus Civilization and reintroducing Sindh’s history to the global stage.
