ISLAMABAD (Web-Desk) – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has recorded a significant shortfall of Rs270 billion in tax collection during the first four months of the current fiscal year, from July to October 2025.
The tax authority was unable to meet its target for tax collection during this period, falling short by a considerable margin.
Sources said FBR managed to collect Rs3.84 trillion in taxes from July to October, while the revenue target for this period was set at Rs4.109 trillion.
In addition, the FBR issued refunds worth Rs205 billion during the same time frame. The month of October, in particular, proved challenging for the FBR, as it faced a shortfall of more than Rs70 billion.
In October, the tax authority collected Rs955 billion, while the target was set at Rs1.026 trillion.
Breaking down the revenue collection, the FBR generated Rs438 billion in income tax, Rs345 billion in sales tax, and Rs70 billion in federal excise duty (FED). Additionally, customs duties contributed Rs107 billion to the total tax revenue.
Despite efforts to reach targets, all major revenue categories—income tax, sales tax, customs duties, and federal excise duties—fell short of their respective goals.
