Pakistan Successfully Launches First Hyperspectral Satellite HS-1 into Space

Date:

Islamabad — Pakistan has entered a new era of space technology with the successful launch of its first hyperspectral satellite, HS-1, from China. The launch was confirmed by SUPARCO, marking a major milestone in the country’s scientific and technological advancement.

HS-1 is designed to conduct detailed analysis of land, vegetation, water, and urban areas. Equipped with the ability to capture highly accurate images across hundreds of spectral bands, the satellite is expected to revolutionize agricultural planning and environmental monitoring.

SUPARCO Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Khan congratulated the nation, stating that the satellite was made possible through the support of the Government of Pakistan. He emphasized that HS-1 will enable precise monitoring of crops, soil, and water quality, as well as tracking deforestation, pollution, and glacier melting.

The satellite will also assist in identifying geographical risks in CPEC projects, opening a new chapter in Pakistan-China space cooperation. Khan described the launch as a strong step toward self-reliance in space technology, reinforcing SUPARCO’s role in national socio-economic development.

HS-1 is expected to enter its designated orbit today, with full operational testing taking up to two months. This marks Pakistan’s third satellite launch into space this year and positions the country among emerging space leaders committed to sustainable development.
