Hyderabad — The official price for sugarcane remains undecided this year, while the directive to begin crushing from November 1 has been unexpectedly withdrawn.
Sindh Abadgar Board President Mahmood Nawaz Shah had written to the Agriculture Secretary on October 9, urging the government to fix the sugarcane rate and activate sugar mills. Following this, the Cane Commissioner issued a letter on October 13 instructing all mills to begin preparations. However, the order was revoked the next day, citing that the final decision would be made during the Sugarcane Control Board meeting scheduled for October 15.
That meeting was abruptly postponed without explanation, leaving both the pricing and crushing operations unresolved. Notably, the sugarcane price was also left unannounced last year, prompting the Sindh Abadgar Board to file a petition in the Sindh High Court’s Mirpurkhas bench.
