Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Arrives in Egypt for Gaza Peace Summit

Date:

SHARM EL-SHEIKH : Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday to participate in the high-level Gaza Peace Summit, hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Upon arrival at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport, Prime Minister Sharif was received by Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Aamir Shouket, and senior diplomatic officials from both nations.

The summit, convened in response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, brings together leaders from over 20 countries, including key Arab and Islamic nations. Prime Minister Sharif is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with senior cabinet members.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the summit is the outcome of diplomatic engagements initiated during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last month. On September 23, Prime Minister Sharif joined leaders from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Indonesia, and Türkiye in a summit-level meeting with President Trump to explore pathways to peace in Gaza.

In a joint statement, the participating countries welcomed U.S. efforts to broker a ceasefire and pledged to work collaboratively toward a comprehensive and lasting peace. The summit aims to finalize a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, address the humanitarian emergency, and lay the groundwork for reconstruction in Gaza.

Pakistan reiterated its longstanding support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and called for a full Israeli withdrawal, protection of civilians, release of prisoners, and an end to displacement. Islamabad also emphasized the need for a credible political process leading to the establishment of an independent and contiguous Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, based on pre-1967 borders and in accordance with UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Prime Minister Sharif’s presence at the summit underscores Pakistan’s active role in regional diplomacy and its commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.
