PESHAWAR: Security forces successfully repelled a deadly terrorist assault on the police training school in Ratta Kulachi, Dera Ismail Khan, on Friday, killing six heavily armed attackers. Tragically, seven valiant police officers embraced martyrdom during the intense operation.
According to the Central Police Office, the assailants—identified as Khawarij (militant extremists)—launched the attack by ramming an explosives-laden truck into the facility’s main gate, triggering a massive explosion. In the aftermath, the terrorists, disguised in various uniforms, stormed the premises wielding heavy weaponry.
Police personnel responded with exceptional courage, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle that lasted over five hours. The terrorists hurled grenades throughout the confrontation. DPO Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmed and RPO Syed Ashfaq Anwar were on-site, leading and coordinating the response efforts.
A joint operation by police and security forces resulted in the elimination of all six terrorists. Authorities recovered suicide vests, explosives, firearms, and ammunition from the scene.
Seven injured officers were promptly shifted to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, all 200 trainee recruits and staff members were safely evacuated from the facility.
Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, confirmed that the area had been cleared and that a search and clean-up operation was underway. He commended the leadership of the RPO and DPO and announced commendations and rewards for all personnel involved in the successful operation.
IGP Hameed also offered prayers for the elevation of the ranks of the martyred officers, vowing that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack, paying heartfelt tribute to the fallen officers. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
“The police personnel laid down their lives to thwart a major terrorist plot. They stood firm and crushed the nefarious designs of the Khawarij terrorists,” said Minister Naqvi.
He further emphasized that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has made unparalleled sacrifices in the ongoing battle against terrorism.
